Ontario Healing Fields is a creative studio. Through immersive workshops and hands-on learning, we aim to empower individuals and communities who seek to cultivate urban sustainable and regenerative lifestyles.
We believe that nurturing a holistic understanding of sustainability can create a resilient and thriving future for all, and that an important way to learn how to adapt to climate change is by fostering a deeper connection to the Earth and each other.
Ontario Healing Fields is where we can learn from nature and apply its teachings to our own lives. It is a place to experiment, play and find your own way to connect to Earth. and find home, the place in our hearts where we feel fulfilled, joyful and free to use our own voice.
Our Story
Ontario Healing Fields is started with me, Alex Bal. I am a photographer and professional educator who focuses on teaching creativity and ways of understanding nature within urban life.
Ontario Healing Fields started with a dream. I had always had this vision of converting a farm field into a forest. The opportunity presented itself when I was pregnant with my first child. I decided I wanted to make sure they knew where our urban resources (food and water) came from. So, I purchased a vacant lot. An old farm field that was too small for a farmer. It was a bog and field.
Over 20 years, I helped this land regain its sovereignty. It is now a young forest. The relationship that developed between me and the land began a journey of relearning how to understand health, and how the planet works, and applying these principles to my creative practice and my day-to-day life. It has been one of the most gratifying experiences of my life.
As an educator, this journey combines my passion for learning and nature. It is time to share what nature has taught me with you. Together we can explore how to make room in our lives for nature.
